“In my own pursuit of God, I often became preoccupied with ME! It was easy to think that being constantly aware of my faults and weakness was humility. It’s not! If I’m the main subject, talking incessantly about my weaknesses, I have entered into the most subtle form of pride.”
Bill Johnson, When Heaven Invades Earth

Bill, I can RELATE! So often I fall in the hole of self-deprecation, of self-pity, of insecurity. But because God is good, He doesn’t leave us to our own devices. Thank God! He opens our eyes to what is hurting us so we can change it! So we can repent and turn to Him and his arms of mercy that are always open wide, ready to receive our contrite and broken hearts!

“The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.”-

–Psalm 51:17

I don’t want to think like this anymore. That is, about what is lacking in me. What I can’t do. What I’m not qualified to do. What others might think of me. I don’t want to live in constant offense anymore. I want to live so high upon my Rock that nothing in this world can touch me! That when stones come my way, they have to travel through a whole different atmosphere and the gates of heaven to even enter my line of sight. By that time, if they can even reach that far, they will have burned to dust.

I want to live in constant security, rather than insecurity, because I know the One who holds me, and His arms are as secure as it gets!

I don’t want to think about how weak I am anymore, because last time I checked, those who trust in God will renew their strength and not grow weary. Those who trust in Him, will not be ashamed. His name is Faithful and True. His grace is abundant and more than enough to bring you through the flames of life, alive and burning even brighter than before.

We all have a fire to walk through. But what God told me today was enough to put my heart at rest:

“The Fire in you is what equips you to endure the fire before you.”

I think of how Jesus endured the cross and mockery for the joy set before Him (Hebrews 12:2)! We were the joy that Jesus set before Him in the face of trials. May we do the same! May we run this race with joy for the Highest Prize, who waits for us at the finish-line. May we not look to the right or to the left but keep our eyes fixed on God, calling us home, to a better country (a heavenly one!).

“Instead, they were longing for a better country–a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.”

—Hebrews 11:16

When thoughts try to invade our mind and tell us what we’re not, may we declare that our lives are hidden in God (Colossians 3:3). If these voices want to even find us, let alone speak to us, they have to go through our Father first.

What we are not, doesn’t matter anymore, because when we surrender to God, He fills us with Himself.

The God of Abundance takes the place of everything we’re not and transforms us to everything that He is! His Spirit in us, enables us to do everything God has called us to do. God, our Consuming Fire, is hotter than any fire He will bring us through. Fear seems silly in the face of such Truth!

God is by our side. Whom then, shall we fear?!
